Generally I teach the workshops in/around Como, but I can also teach in Milan, Italy if you perfer.
The difference is Milan has heavy traffic and a lot of people milling about, which can be cool but it also slows down the process. Como has the lake, the town is smaller and we frequently will drive out of Como to other villages all by the lake and shoot there. This entire region has amazing locations.
This is what normally happens: I will show you how to use light, control light, to recognize a great location, how to work a location to it's best use and how to direct models. It will be you shooting in turn with me. I will set up a location, explain the light & use of the light, why this location was selected. Then you & I will shoot some images until you feel comfortable knowing you "got the shot". Then I will walk/drive with you, find a location you like & I will assist you in getting a great image. I will be beside you to help in getting a great image for you. I feel once I show you how to get a great image, you will better understand light, controls of light, looking for a cool location & how to direct the model.
This is a hands on workshop, it is not about me talking all day in a room, but being right beside you while you shoot, giving you pointers on how to get a better image.
All workshops will include a professional model from Milan. If you have a model in mind that you want to shoot, that may cost extra.
On all locations, I will shoot first to allow you to see how I work: Looking for a good location, how to determine if I need to modify the light and if so what he needs light control wise. You will also see how I work with the model. You will shoot throughout the day and I will show you how to shoot beautiful images even in the middle of the day by using light controls and using the location to it's best advantage. Sometimes it is easier and faster to cross the street or go around the corner to shoot rather than force yourself to shoot at a difficult location.
Dates & Fees: The dates are at your request. Normally I'm in Italy starting mid May to mid June then I'm is back in mid September to mid October every year. The 8 hour workshop fee is €2300.00 which includes a model. If you have a spouse and/or some friends that wish to participate with your workshop, they are €995 each up to a total of 5.
A make up artist/hair styist is an extra €400 for the day and a wardrobe stylist is an extra €300.00 for the day. The advantage to having the makeup artist/hair stylist and a wardrobe stylist is you will return home with some stunning photos for your portfolio and will know how to do recreate the lighting again. All of the photos above were shot during some of my workshops in Italy.
What you will leave with:
You will see how I shoot.
You will learn new techniques about shooting, light control, having a better understanding of light and composition.
You will learn how to use strobe to either solve a light problem or to give a different look to an image.
You will leave with great fashion & beauty images and, more importantly, a much better understanding of how to do it yourself when you get home.
I have been asked from time to time "are the Italians unfriendly towards Americans?" The answer is no, Italians do not just like Americans, they love Americans.
The language for all of the workshops will be English.
