About the Video

This fashion/beauty project was shot in a private home near Atlanta, GA USA. The challenge for me was to limit where the light went in this very small room. By keeping the Lantern close to the model, and using the blackout skirt, I was able to have a lot of light on the model and due to the inverse square rule of light, I was able to keep the rest of the scene relatively dark.

The disadvantage is when the model moved a small amount closer or farther away from the light source, it changed the light intensity on the model. This is not a big deal if you understand light AND are careful to pay attention to the distance the model is to the light. Consequently I moved the light a lot throughout the shoot.

The Gear:
Canon cameras at 1/80 second and 160 ISO using a
Sigma 85mm f1.4 lens at f1.6 all attached to a
Sachtler fluid head sitting on a
Gitzo CF tripod.

The Light is:
An Aputure LS C120D II LED light system, set to 100% light power with an
Aputure Lantern Softbox with supplied skirt to limit light scatter.

NOTE: The skirt can go all around the Lantern, it is up to you to decide what light to allow by removing coverage. Also the entire skirt may be removed if you wish.
