Other than light, which is the single most important element in any given image/photograph, the hardest part of lifestyle imagery is getting an image that is 100% believable. Normally in shooting Lifestyle imagery you are faced with taking photos of people you may not know, shooting with people they do not know either, shooting on location they may not be familiar or comfortable with.
Casting of the players (models and/or actors) is the primary key to success. The other is having trained your eye to know what looks real or not, and then know how to get your talent comfortable and understand what you, the photographer or director, need from them to be successful.
I have been shooting lifestyle imagery for 25+ years and I am very comfortable shooting and directing couples or groups. I know what to look for and know if I am or I'm not getting it. I have a high success rate shooting lifestyle imagery with total strangers.
