This emotional fashion advertising photograph was taken on location in Milan, Italy. There was a structure that was about 2 feet (60 CM) high attached to the wall. I asked Paulina to stand on it to get this point of view. I have been frequenting this location for many years, and it has witnessed significant changes over the past decade. Nature has been reclaiming the area, with vegetation taking over, and some of the buildings have sadly collapsed. It was quite by chance that I stumbled upon this place while on my way to rent another car for the next day's production. During the drive to Linate airport, my lead assistant in Europe, Emiliano, spotted an old roof and knew I had a penchant for incorporating such textured backgrounds in my images. Intrigued by the prospect, we veered off track and finally found the location after a small detour. Upon exploring it, we realized it was no longer a functioning farm. We wandered around the area for about ten minutes before returning to our car, parked in front of a locked gate. An elderly gentleman approached us and inquired about our presence. We explained that we were photographers and were intrigued by the farm's ambiance as a potential shooting location. He informed us that a family member regularly visits the farm around 5 pm each day to feed the pigeons and the cats. We thanked him for the information and continued with our car rental errand. Three days later, after completing our project, we decided to return to the farm. This time, we encountered Elena, the woman responsible for tending to the place. She welcomed us warmly and extended an open invitation to visit the farm anytime we desired. It is with a tinge of sadness that I realize, in a few more years, this cherished farm will likely be gone. Whether succumbing to decay or bulldozed to make way for warehouses or apartments, its fate seems uncertain. Over the years, the farm has been left untended, slowly deteriorating, and unfortunately, many items, including the hand-crafted hand-hammered steel frames for the barn windows, have vanished, possibly stolen. I miss those unique frames; they were truly remarkable. Their disappearance leaves me with a sense of nostalgia and longing for the past.

About the Image
