This industrial lifestyle advertising image was shot for a client in Qatar who owns a highway safety installation and repair company. I have the very good fortune of my client deciding when we would shoot. On this project & budgeted 6 days but allowed my schedule to have another 6 days as I knew dust storms and sand storms are normal in Qatar. I think I was actually in Qatar almost 3 weeks due to conditions. My driver picked me up at the hotel in the morning and we shot the early in the day image so we went to lunch. Afterward we drove to the end of the day location and we got there about 2 hours early for prime light. So we waited for the sun to get low. About 2 hours before sunset I started to shoot. Part of what I do is move a lot around the location to get different POV's. This allows me to put the camera, and the sun, where I want it to achieve maximum visual impact. The reason I got this color, is the dust in the air. It was not so bad we could not shoot but shooting into the sun allowed me to get a stunning image. On this trip there were days that you did not know where the sun was due to the thick dust storms. When the client saw this series of images the next day, he was literally jumping up and down.

The Gear: Canon digital camera set to 1/50 of a second shutter speed, 160 ISO and a Canon 200mm shot at f13.

The Light: Sunset with a lot of dust in the air, hence the orange sky.
